Police ID gunman accused of killing 70-year-old man during family gathering

Police have identified a suspect accused of shooting and killing a 70-year-old man in Gwinnett County. Jose Aldo Sanchez-Vazquez is wanted for the murder of Richard St. John outside a Norcross home on May 24.

The family told Channel 2′s Tom Jones they were gathered in the front yard of St. John’s home when a gunman came up and started shooting.

“When you think about it, it doesn’t seem real. I just can’t understand why,” Robert St. John said.

“They took my dad. They took my world. They took my kid’s grandpa,” Michelle Garcia said.

Arrest warrants have been issued for Sanchez-Vazquez for felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during commission of a felony.

The family said their father had been dealing with someone tagging his fence and car. They are not sure if that had anything to do with the shooting, but police said the motive for the murder appears to be gang related.

The police department urges anyone with information on Sanchez-Vazquez to call 911 or Atlanta Crime Stoppers if they wish to remain anonymous.
