Police find car, but no arrest in fatal hit-and-run

NORCORSS, Ga. — A Gwinnett County woman wants the driver who hit and killed her boyfriend arrested.

Pierre Peterson was hit by a driver as he walked home along Buford Highway in Norcross. Peterson later died.

"Pierre was a human being. I loved him and I just want justice for him," Peterson's girlfriend, Lisa Cowans, told Channel 2's Carl Willis.

Pierre Peterson was killed as he walked home along Buford Highway in Norcross.

The incident happened on Mother’s Day. The driver didn’t stop.

"It affects me mentally and emotionally, because I feel that if we could just have some answers, the family, we would be fine with it just as long as somebody cares," Cowans said.

A witness told police that they were in the northbound lanes of Bufford Highway near Mitchell Road when they saw a car swerve and then saw Peterson laying in the road.

Cowans said Peterson survived until the next day. She said there has been next to no contact or communication with investigators.

"The only thing I know is they gave his mom a ticket for him jay-walking,” Cowans told Willis. “That was disrespectful right then during that time of grieving.”

Cowans said the authorities have located the vehicle from the accident, but no one has been arrested.

She told Willis she is speaking out now so that the case, and the life that was lost, are not forgotten.

"Because I love Pierre. And the way that he died it was tragic. And then not to have any answers, that bothered us the most," Cowans said.
