Officer recovering after suspect nearly runs her over

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A Snellville police officer is recovering after nearly being run over by a suspect over the weekend.

Sgt. Rain Nieddu was questioning an 18-year-old about having sex in the park with a 16-year-old girl when he suddenly took off.

In Nieddu’s body-cam video, she tells Kevin Hill, “You guys can’t be having sex in the park.” Hill insists that he and the girl were just kissing, but when Nieddu asks for their IDs, Hill takes off, dragging the officer and the 16-year-old passenger with his car.

The officer became trapped between the open door and the car.

“She fell off the car and was nearly run over by the car,” Snellville police Chief Roy Whitehead said. “His female passenger was drug on the other side of the car by the door being open on her side.”

Whitehead says Hill then led officers on a chase through two counties.

At one point, officers say one of Hill’s tires blew out, but he continued on, narrowly missing several head-on collisions.

When the car bounced across a ditch, police say they saw Hill toss marijuana out of his car.

“It was (a) long chase and he had a hard time, with the tires shredded, keeping control of his vehicle,” Whitehead said.

Ultimately police spun the car out and arrested Hill, who appeared in court on Monday. A judge denied bond for aggravated assault on a police officer and other charges.

Authorities say both the teenage girl and the sergeant suffered bruises and road-rash injuries but are otherwise OK.
