“I got her for 22 years and it was a blessing,” Dana Turk said about her daughter Olivia.
Cox and Smith died March 26. The two were riding in a black Nissan Sentra with three other friends when police say the car crossed the median and struck a Cadillac. Another friend was seriously injured. The driver and a third passenger were treated at the scene.
Turk says the girls were inseparable in life and death.
“My best friend said she saw them playing in a field,” Turk said.
Turk said the girls had a strong faith. The two college students were planning on getting an apartment together and both had a mission to help others.
“I just hope in their deaths people will realize where that spark came from. It was from God,” Turk said.
Turk described her daughter as a health fanatic and free spirit.
“She was a flower child. She got caught in the wrong generation,” Turk said.
In the exclusive interview Turk told Channel 2’s Liz Artz she hasn’t questioned her faith, but has questioned God.
“God why? Why my baby, my only child? We were so close, so close,” Turk said. “I’ve had some anger, I've had some denial where I blocked it out overall I've had a peace I know that’s God."
She says every emotion has rocked her small frame.
“I go from being numb to being just in pain,” she said.
Olivia was her only child. She told Artz she hopes her death will wake others up, make them realize how precious life is and make changes.
“(I hope this is) something that causes people to think and people to want to change their lives,” she said. “When it's all over with I just want everybody to love on each other and be grateful."
The family is holding a memorial Saturday at the softball fields at South Gwinnett, where Olivia played. They're hoping people will come together and celebrate Olivia’s life with love for each other.
