GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Police say they have arrested a woman accused of hitting a Gwinnett County teen riding his bike and then leaving the scene.

Witnesses told police that a woman hit him, got out to check her car and then took off, without ever checking on Myles.

Wednesday, police said Amanda Simpson, 29, turned herself in and was booked into Gwinnett County Jail.

"I didn't give up hope that we weren't going to find her but I was comfortably slipping into the idea that this lady could not be found,” Myles told Channel 2’s Carl Willis.

The teen was left with a broken elbow, staples from a big gash in his head and lots of road rash. He also underwent surgery Monday.

His mother, Lori, is still trying to understand why someone would leave a 15-year-old injured and bleeding in the road.

"It just breaks your heart a little bit because, of course, he's so precious to me as everybody's child is,” Lori Bonn said. "I just can't imagine somebody going, 'Oh, I’m sure he'll be fine and just taking off."

Police said Amanda Simpson turned herself in and was booked into the Gwinnett County Jail.

It will take some time before Myles will be fine.

Doctor's say he'll have permanent damage to his elbow.

Myles told Willis that he signaled that he was about to turn but the driver swerved to pass him, causing the collision.

He said he's focused on making a full recovery and wants bike riders and drivers to learn from this.

"I know nobody wants to share the roads. You're in a car. You're trying to get places, but it's just some people don't have a choice yet whether they can drive their cars where they need to go," Myles Bonn said.

"There's a lot of good that came out of this and I hate that the bad lasted for so long," Lori Bonn said.

At last check, Simpson remained in the Gwinnett County Jail. Simpson has been charged with hit-and-run resulting in serious injury, keeping an unsafe distance from a bicycle, improper passing and failure to yield the right of way.
