Gwinnett sushi restaurant fails health inspection with a 41 score

SUWANEE, Ga. — A sushi restaurant in Gwinnett County failed a health inspection after violations that included raw fish stored above cooked shrimp.

Sushi Miga on Old Peachtree Road got a score of 41, which is an unsatisfactory on Jan. 12.

The Japanese restaurant hasn’t been open very long. The chef/manager told Channel 2’s Carol Sbarge he learned some valuable things from the health inspector during the inspection.

The Suwanee restaurant opened last summer and got an 86 on the previous inspection.

Violations this time included no soap at the sink in the kitchen or at the sushi bar, multiple foods not date marked and held more than 24 hours, and serving lobster raw or undercooked while not having the required parasite destruction for lobster.

Chef Soo Park told Sbarge he’s fixed the violations and made the food healthy for customers.

He said he didn’t realize he needed to mark dates on food, but insists nothing old was served.

Park said they usually use everything within one or two days, so he thought it would be OK not to date the food.

Park said everything has now been fixed and he’s confident Sushi Miga will bet a 100 on the re-inspection.

We’ll let you know what the new score is when the re-inspection happens. It will take place in the next 10 days.
