Gwinnett Korean restaurant fails 2 health inspections, permit suspended

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A Korean restaurant in Gwinnett failed two health inspections this month. That led to the Gwinnett County Health Department suspending Ham Ji Bak’s permit.

The Duluth restaurant on Satellite Boulevard has a menu that is written primarily in Korean. It has such dishes as fresh Eel BBQ and Korean pancakes.

Neighbors say a new owner took over this year.

Ham Ji Bak’s permit was suspended Wednesday after failing two consecutive inspections. The inspection score Wednesday was a 59, which is four points lower than the failing inspection six days before.

Violations included no person in charge at the beginning of the inspection, cooked beans and shrimp not cooled at an adequate rate and raw oyster packages not properly dated.

When Channel 2’s Carol Sbarge went to the restaurant and no one was there. She called and a worker answered Thursday.

That person told Sbarge the manager would call her. She hasn’t heard from her.

Restaurant managers have to get a plan to the Health Department by Sunday on how they’ll fix the problems.

If the restaurant fails again, it could lose its permit.

This second failing inspection had a mix of new and repeat violations.

Channel 2 Action News will let you know the new score when Ham Ji Bak is inspected a third time. That should happen in early May.
