Carjacking, chase in Gwinnett County caught on camera

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — The search is on for a man who pushed a driver out of a car and almost knocked an officer to the ground.

The wild chase started at a Walmart in Gwinnett County on Pleasant Hill Road.

It was caught on camera, first from inside the officer's patrol car then on his body camera.

It all started with a shoplifting call over stolen underwear and laundry detergent.

Then the driver is pushed out and when Gwinnett County Officer Byung Kang gets to the car, he is almost hit by the door as the suspect gets behind the wheel and takes off down Pleasant Hill Road.

The chase onto Steve Reynolds Boulevard moves up onto the sidewalk to avoid traffic and narrowly missing a bus stop.

The suspect, later identified as Naquan Brandt, appears to crash a couple of times before turning in to a subdivision and ditching the car.

Kang and other officers, including police K-9s, spent more than an hour on foot looking for Brandt.

The car was found in a driveway but the suspect was nowhere to be found.

Later, a police body camera recorded victim Chet Bushey describe getting pushed and kicked out of the car.

"I just remember falling out. I kind of gradually as I was falling. He would have ran me over," Bushey says.

Despite the close calls and dangerous moves, police say no one was hurt.

Police have been searching for Brandt for more than a week.

They said he has been on probation out of Barrow County for a 2010 drive-by shooting

Anyone with information about Brant is urged to call Duluth police or CrimeStoppers.
