The Gwinnett County Health Department shut down a restaurant for a few days after it got a score of 25 on a health inspection.

Channel 2's Carol Sbarge says Best BBQ on Pleasant Hill Road has the lowest score she's seen since reporting on health inspections.

One violation in the May 2 inspection included employees not washing hands. Manager Paul Chan told Sbarge he is retraining workers to be sure to wash their hands.

Chan says he was stunned by the score. He says he's worked in restaurants for many years and never seen a score that low.

Violations included live cockroaches, no soap at the hand-washing sink in the back and ducks and pigs uncovered in a walk-in cooler.

The Gwinnett County health inspector suspended the restaurant's permit due to multiple risk factors. Best BBQ was allowed to reopen Tuesday after a compliance hearing.

Best BBQ must pass a re-inspection this month to stay open. Chan says despite the low inspection score the food is safe to eat.
