Clerk stops robber who threatened him with rifle

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A Gwinnett County convenience store clerk turned the tables on a would-be robber who threatened him with a large rifle.

A masked woman walked into the Texaco store on Singleton Road last week and demanded cigarettes.

The clerk said she refused to remove her mask. Surveillance video shows the woman pulling a large gun from underneath her jacket and pointing it at the clerk.

“She told me if I’m not selling her the cigarettes, 'I will shoot you.' I told her, ‘For cigarettes you want to shoot me? We also have a gun in our store,’” Zazur Petiwala said.

Petiwala said when he reached for his gun, the woman lowered her weapon and walked out of the store, but appeared to look at him the whole way to see if he actually pulled his weapon.

“Right when I saw that I was a little nervous that she had a big gun because she was pointing it right at the glass,” Petiwala said.

The clerk called 911, but police said officers and dogs were not able to track the woman.

Petiwala returned to work, glad he had his own protection.

“We work in a gas station so we have to be prepared for that because anything can happen at any time,” he said.

Petiwala believes the woman was young, maybe in her late teens or early 20s.

He said he didn’t get a good look at her, but he doesn’t believe he’s seen her around before.
