GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. - A Parkview High School coach and former college football standout was arrested in class Friday for allegedly having inappropriate contact with a student.

Mikey Henderson, 32, was a math teacher and assistant football coach at the Gwinnett County high school. Administrators say he resigned Friday morning and was then taken into custody by police. He is charged with one count of sexual assault.

Henderson, who is from Gwinnett County and attended Buford High school, played football for the Georgia Bulldogs from 2003-2007. He has been a teacher at Parkview since 2013.

Some students at the school had a hard time wrapping their mind around the news.

“That I don’t believe. I don’t believe that at all,” one student told Channel 2’s Tony Thomas.

Other weren’t as surprised.

“There’s rumors been going around. Since freshman year, two years ago, this has been going around,” Alim Panjwian said.

The police report Thomas obtained says Henderson had a two and a half year relationship with the student, who is now 18. It also says the inappropriate contact happened inside the school.

According to the arrest warrant, the victim was a student in Henderson's class.

Police say the allegations were first reported by three students who were friends with the victim.

Henderson remained in jail as of late Friday afternoon. He is scheduled to make his first appearance in court Sunday.

A Gwinnett County schools spokesperson released the following statement after Henderson’s arrest:

Mr. Henderson resigned this morning during the HR investigation and was taken into custody by police.
