Community gathers to mourn death of murdered Cobb County teacher

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A community came together to remember a Cobb County teacher who police say was killed by her mother-in-law.

Jenna Wall was a mother of two and a kindergarten teacher. She left an impact on every community she touched, including Kemp Elementary, where fellow educators are still shocked by her death.

Wall's friends on the kindergarten team from Kemp were part of the vigil to honor her memory Thursday after Cobb County police say the 35-year-old was shot and killed by her mother-in-law, Elizabeth Wall.

Officials say Wall's mother-in-law was seeking custody of her kids. Wall and her estranged husband were going through a divorce.

"You would never imagine that something like this would happen to a friend," Jennifer Ridgway said.

During a vigil, children read Jenna's favorite Bible verse and fellow educators wore shirts with a few words that described Wall.

The friends who organized the vigil, from the banner being filled with messages of love to the flames lit to keep the memory of Walls burning, say the event began as a small gathering.

"But as the week went on, it's been amazing the amount of people who wanted to come out and support her," Ridgway said.
