Alleged fake dentist busted in the middle of operation

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Gwinnett County police say a fake dentist is out of business after detectives stumbled upon him while he was right in the middle of a procedure.

Police say Yuri Aleksandruk’s operation was hidden in plain sight at an office complex on Steve Reynolds Boulevard.

When detectives arrived at the complex on an unrelated theft case, they found a locked door and could hear people moving around inside. When they got inside, they say they found a fully functioning, although illegal, dentist office.

“He was actively performing procedures,” Detective Jacob Albright said.

Albright says the unlicensed operation seemed to have everything a normal dentist office would have, including a chair, lights and tools all arranged and in working order.

“By his own admission, he stated that he was a dentist in the Ukraine and was unable to obtain a license here in America,” Albright said.

Police believe Aleksandruk preformed operations at least every other day, if not more often, on site.

“Based on calendars and other things we found, he has only been operating at this location since the second week in October, but since that time he has had several appointments at this location,” Albright said.

Police still aren’t sure how patients, who traveled from long distances, found out about the hidden office in the warehouse complex.

“He did work for other Ukrainians for cheap, or sometimes free,” Albright said. “The majority of his patients seemed to be coming from out of state.”

Channel 2’s Tony Thomas spoke to Aleksandruk by phone.

“I apologize,” Aleksandruk said repeatedly in broken English.

Investigators also arrested another man, Peter Kiriliuk. He manages this office space, and detectives say was paid $500 a month to let Aleksandruk work there.

“It doesn't seem like it would be the first time that he's attempted to do this somewhere,” Albright said.

Both men were charged with felony practicing dentistry without a license.
