15 dogs seized from backyard breeding program

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Fifteen dogs have been seized from an unlawful backyard breeding program in Gwinnett County, authorities said.

An animal control officer saw a “Puppies for sale” sign on March 24 in front of a home on Williams Drive in Norcross.

No one answered when the officer knocked on the door, so he walked around the side of the home and saw several dogs in a fenced area.

The officer found nine Chihuahuas and six pit bulls in what appeared to be a backyard breeding area.

Animal control said four of the pit bulls appeared pregnant and near delivery, and two female Chihuahuas had three puppies each.

The officer told the owner that he was in violation of the county ordinance against breeding without a license. The owner agreed to surrender the animals to Gwinnett County Animal Welfare and Enforcement.

Animal control is still looking for homes for the pit bulls.
