Gucci Mane arrested on soldier assault charges

ATLANTA — Police say Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane has been arrested and taken to the Fulton County Jail.

The rapper, whose legal name is Radric Davis, is accused of hitting a soldier in the head with a champagne bottle at a downtown Atlanta club.

The soldier, who asked only to be called by his first name, James, told Channel 2's Amy Napier Viteri he asked a security guard in the VIP section of Harlem Nights on Courtland Street in Atlanta, if he could get a photo with the rapper.

James said he was shocked when the rapper reacted violently to his request and hit him in the head with a bottle. James told Viteri he was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital by ambulance, where he received 10 stitches.

Atlanta police issued an arrest warrant for the rapper on Friday. He is charged with aggravated assault.

Gucci Mane made his first court appearance Wednesday morning and was issued no bond.

"Mr. Davis has a history, we're not going to skirt that issue, and that history made it difficult for him to get bond today," defense attorney Drew Findling said after the hearing.
