Great-grandfather says man tried to rob him at gunpoint at ATM

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. — A man says an armed man tried to rob him while he was at the bank with his two great-grandchildren in Douglasville.

Louis Entrekin told Channel 2's Christian Jennings he was on his way to church with his 10- and 11-year-old great-grandsons around 7:30 a.m. Sunday when he decided to stop at the Regions Bank on Church Street for church offering money.

"I pulled up to the ATM to get some money because I had about $5. I needed some money to put in the plate at church and the boys got to have some, too," the 74-year-old said.

Entrekin said he noticed a young man in the parking lot but he didn’t think much of it until it was too late.

"I was fixing to pull off and he run over to the car and popped a gun right there in my face and said give me money," he said.

The great-grandfather told Jennings he carried his own gun for protection, but he didn’t have time to grab it. He figured the safest thing to do in that situation was drive away as fast as he could.

"I just hit the gas and took off," he said.

Douglasville police told Channel 2 Action News it's possible the same man who pointed the gun at Entrekin also robbed two other people this summer.
