Grand jury indicts former officer who claimed gunman shot her

BUTTS COUNTY, Ga. — A grand jury has indicted a former officer who claimed a gunman shot her.

Former Jackson police Officer Sherry Hall said she was shot by an unidentified man while on duty last September.

Investigators say the shooter never existed.

“The investigation has revealed that there is no, and never was, a suspect shooter at large in Jackson, Georgia,” said Joe Wooten with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation

Authorities are stopping short of saying she shot herself, but the GBI said her bulletproof vest was struck by a bullet.

Hall is accused of making false statements and writings, concealment of facts, evidence tampering and violation of oath. She is now facing nearly a dozen charges.

"I'm innocent of all charges and anything else is no comment and needs to be referred to my attorney," Hall told Channel 2's Mark Winne.

Hall sent Winne a letter last year following a court hearing.

"First and foremost i"m innocent of all charges and allegations. This is nothing more than a cover up in a small town," she said.

Hall was terminated from the Jackson police department and her certification is currently under suspension by POST.
