Get ready for another round of rain, storms on Sunday

ATLANTA — It will be a cloudy start to your Sunday. That will then give way to more rain and storms by Sunday afternoon.

Severe Weather Team 2 started warning about these storms early in the week as the front began forming and showed it was heading toward Georgia.

Severe Weather Team 2's Katie Walls said the biggest impact from the storms includes heavy rain, gusty winds and small hail. The winds could be strong enough to down trees.

Walls warned of ponding on the local roadways as well.

“This is a time to be weather aware,” Walls said.

OVERNIGHT INTO SUNDAY MORNING:

Some scattered showers will continue to move through the metro. There will be mostly cloudy skies when you get up in the morning.

“If you have outdoor activities planned for your Sunday, my advice is the earlier the better. More storms will be developing on your Sunday afternoon,” Wall said.

SUNDAY AFTERNOON:

Storms start to pick up throughout the afternoon. Temperatures will top out in the mid-to-high 80s.

“It’s another time to be weather aware,” Walls said. “Heavy rainfall, frequent lightning, gusty winds are again threats for the afternoon.”

THE WEEK AHEAD:

The wet weather pattern is expected to stick around through at least Tuesday until a cold front approaches and begins to push out the tropical moisture that has been fueling the weekend’s storms.
