American film star Clark Gable (1901-1960) reading the novel 'Gone With the Wind' by Margaret Mitchell.

ATLANTA — It's a book that has its roots in Atlanta and fans all over the world.

"Gone With The Wind" was published on June 30, 1936 and was the basis of the blockbuster 1939 movie.

The novel is set in Clayton County during the Civil War and Reconstruction Era.

Warner Brothers described the plot this way: "On the eve of the American Civil War, rich, beautiful and self-centered Scarlett O'Hara (Vivien Leigh, in her Oscar-winning role) has everything she could want—except Ashley Wilkes (Leslie Howard)."

"But as the war devastates the South, Scarlett discovers the strength within herself to protect her family and rebuild her life. Through everything, she longs for Ashley, seemingly unaware that she is already married to the man she really loves (Clark Gable)—and who truly loves her—until she finally drives him away. Only then does Scarlett realize what she has lost... and decide to win him back."

The move won eight Academy Awards and is arguably one of the greatest American films ever made.

In 2015, a Henry County resident found pieces of the mansion movie set used in the film.

"Over here, this is one of the big windows that Hattie McDaniel stuck her head out of," Peter Bonner said.

The movie set was taken out of Tinseltown back in the 1950s and later purchased by Betty Talmadge, wife of Georgia Sen. Herman Talmadge, and hidden away in their old barn.

Bonner that hopes one day, everyone who loves the movie will have a chance to see what is left of the mansion.
