• Girl, 13, killed in Forsyth County wreck


    FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. - Authorities have identified a 13-year-old girl killed in a Forsyth County wreck on Saturday afternoon.

    Kayla Pirkle was killed in the wreck that happened at the intersection of Shadburn and Martin roads around 1:30 p.m., according to the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office. 

    She was riding in a car driven by a 19-year-old girl travelling east on Martin Road when they apparently turned into the path of a westbound F-250 Ford pickup truck, according to sheriff's office spokeswoman Karleen Chalker.   

    Chalker said the 19-year-old driver was taken by ambulance to North Fulton Hospital, and Pirkle was taken by air ambulance to Scottish Rite Hospital where she later died. 

    The wreck is being investigated by the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office traffic specialist unit, and no charges have been filed against either driver.
