Gas leak closes E. Atlanta road, businesses

ATLANTA — Crews are working on repairs after a gas leak in the East Atlanta Village neighborhood on Wednesday morning.

It happened at Glenwood Avenue and Joseph Street sometime before 10:30 a.m. The leak stemmed from a beautification project, including new brick sidewalks. Channel 2's Jeff Dore was there as Atlanta Gas Light and Georgia Power crews in protective gear worked on repairs.

Glenwood Avenue was blocked as crews worked on three to four-inch line. Several businesses, including The Graveyard, The Glenwood and Tomatillos, were unable to continue operations as a result. Dore said there was also a heavy gas smell in the area.

Atlanta Fire officials said it was the second gas leak in two days. It's unclear how long repairs are expected to last.
