Ga. woman aboard stranded cruise ship discusses ordeal

Updated:

ATLANTA,None - An Athens woman was one of hundreds of passengers stranded on a cruise ship in the Indian Ocean.

Passengers had their vacation cut short when a fire knocked out power to the Costa Allegra three days ago. The cruise ship was bound for Seychelles. It finally reached its destination on Thursday.

Eleanor Bradwell, of Athens, Ga., described an intense few days.

“Very, very hot. We could not stay in our cabins. We had to sleep on the deck, most of the time. Unsanitary conditions. No electricity. No hot food,” Bradwell said.

Bradwell said she has more stops planned for her trip, so she won’t be heading back to Georgia for another couple of weeks.

This is the second major issue with a Costa ship this year. The Costa Concordia crashed into rocks off Italy’s coast in January and capsized, killing at least 25 people.

No one was injured in the fire.
