Suspect in Roswell teens' murder taken to jail

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Channel 2 Action News was there as man accused of killing two Cobb County teenagers went from the jail in Roswell to Fulton County Jail in northwest Atlanta.

Suspected killer Jeffrey Hazelwood was riding with his window down as Roswell police transported the 20-year-old right past Channel 2 Action News’ camera into intake at the jail.

Just one day after detectives made quick work of the case that stunned the community.

"From the time the bodies were found until the time we had the suspect in custody, it was less than 48 hours and during that time there were several detectives that either did not sleep or only slept for just a few hours,” Police Chief Rusty Grant said.

Grant told Channel 2's Mark Winne that

: The murder scene where Carter Davis and Natalie Henderson, both 17, were shot and killed. And a convenience store where Hazelwood allegedly used Henderson's credit or debit card.

"Once we identified him, everything just fell into place," Grant said.

Police have not released a motive in the case

Hazelwood's social media pages show a brooding young man who days ago posted about wanting to live underwater, and who months ago questioned why he should live and now the possible end of his freedom.

Grant says further evidence against Hazelwood includes video showing a vehicle that matched Hazelwood's – a Honda Passport with bumper damage held together with duct tape that police say was spotted near the murder scene.

"On Wednesday morning we had the suspect under surveillance and the decision was made by officers on the scene to take him into custody,” Grant said.
