Home invasion in Buckhead prompts police to add patrols

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Atlanta police are investigating a home invasion and burglary that occurred at a Buckhead house early Tuesday morning while a family was asleep.

Valerie Levine said the masked men broke into her home on Norfleet Road around 1:30 a.m. She said her husband went to check out a noise and scared the men off, but not before the thieves could grab car keys to two family SUVs.

Levine said the suspects also dropped a handgun in the house.

"I think if my husband had confronted them, it could have gone badly," Levine said. "So good that he startled them the way he did."

Levine said she, her husband and her teenage daughter have lived in the neighborhood for 15 years and have never been the victims of a major crime.

The Atlanta Police Department has vowed to step up patrols.

“We are concerned about any crime that occurs within the community,” said Officer Lisa Bender. “We will increase our presence in that area.”

No one was hurt in the incident. Levine said her family is installing surveillance cameras and she's also looking into purchasing a weapon.

She said the thieves stole her silver Audi SUV, which was in the garage, and her daughter’s green Lexus SUV, which was parked on the street.
