Friends mourn shooting death of Kennesaw State student

KENNESAW, Ga. — Hundreds of friends gathered at Kennesaw State University for a vigil in honor of 21-year-old Kim Kilgore, who was killed early Friday morning.

"I was in the passenger seat and she was looking right at me when it happened. I was the last sight she saw before her life was taken, and I couldn't stop it," said Shannon Stone, who is Kilgore's best friend.

Sparkles Lashayla Lindsey, 22, was taken into custody late Friday night in connection to Kilgore's death.

Kilgore was shot and killed about 2 a.m. Friday in Kennesaw. Cobb County police confirm some sort of road rage incident between two women led to a physical altercation before shots were fired in the parking lot of the Shiloh Green Apartments in Kennesaw.

Lindsey, a resident of Austell, has been charged with aggravated assault and murder.

Loved ones said Kilgore should have been working at Johnny's BBQ in Powder Springs Friday night. Instead, her friends and colleagues say she died after being taken off life support, hours after she was shot at the apartments.

"This girl was my ride or die, I did everything with her, she never separated. She was always by my side," Stone said.

"She was a beautiful person inside and out," friend and colleague Emily Benton told Channel 2's Ashley Swann. "Her personality just lifted everybody up."

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at West Ridge Church in Dallas with Pastor Gene Evans and Pastor Mark Evans officiating.

Interment will follow in Peaceful Meadows Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home on Tuesday between 4 and 8 p.m.

Clark Funeral Home in Hiram is in charge of arrangements.
