Video appears to show sheriff's deputy street racing

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — A shocking video appears to show a local sheriff’s deputy street racing on a city parkway, but Forsyth County sheriff’s officials say the video is misleading.

Officials said they are investigating the incident and the deputy said he was not racing.

Channel 2's Dave Huddleston showed residents Cici Brown and Christopher Vasquez the video that we found on YouTube. It looks like a Forsyth County sheriff's deputy is racing down Peachtree Parkway in Cumming.

In the video, you can see other cars on the road. The YouTube video is titled “Street racing with the sheriff? Coolest cop ever.”

“That’s crazy. The police are supposed to be setting an example, especially here on the streets. I mean, he could have injured someone. That’s just crazy to me," Brown said.

Huddleston also showed the video to resident Adrienne Myles and her daughter.

“Geez, that terrible. That’s pretty messed up,” she said.

Channel 2 Action News reached out to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office. They said the video is deceiving.

“It doesn’t look good, and that’s why we’ve talked with the deputy. We’re convinced he was not engaging in a street race,” Deputy Doug Rainwater said.

Rainwater said the deputy was at a stop and go light and the street car accelerated, making it appear they were racing.

He also said they will now patrol the area around Peachtree Parkway and GA 400 looking for racers.

“From this point on, every time we see one of these street racers doing something stupid, they will be charged and even go to jail," Rainwater said.
