FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — A Forsyth County sheriff's deputy is recovering at the hospital after officials tell Channel 2 Action News he was hit by a man suspected of driving under the influence.
The incident happened on Georgia 400 northbound near Majors Road early Saturday.
Officials said Deputy First Class Rod Reeves was sitting in his marked patrol car on the shoulder of Georgia 400 working traffic enforcement when a 2005 Ford Explorer hit the rear of his patrol car.
"Reeves received some very serious and significant injuries," Deputy Doug Rainwater said.
Reeves was transported to an area hospital, where officials learned the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

The driver of the 2005 Ford Explorer has been identified as Aaron Riley Russell, 27.
Russell is suspected of being under the influence, officials confirmed to Channel 2 Action News.
Russell was driving on a suspended and revoked Georgia Driver’s License and was currently considered an Habitual Violator.
He was also taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
