NWS confirms tornado hit Forsyth County

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — Channel 2 Action News has learned the National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado touched down in Forsyth County Monday morning.

Channel 2's Rikki Klaus was with NWS surveyors Monday as they investigated the damage left by the storms.

The surveyors determined an EF-0 storm, with winds reaching 75-80 mph, tore through the neighborhood along Pleasant Grove Road in Cumming.

"The most scariest thing that's ever happened," is how Adams described the storm to Klaus.

Adams is still trying to process the shock of trees crashing onto her parents' home.

The tornado touched down around 10:30 a.m. Monday. Adams said she woke up just moments before.

"I hadn't even made it out of the bedroom door yet, and I heard a big crack like lightning had hit," she said.

Adams said a tree sliced through the roof and crashed onto the bed. She said first responders told her she's lucky she got up when she did.

"If it would have been five seconds later, the tree would have fell and crushed my chest," Adams said.

Betty Adams told Klaus she sensed something was about to happen.

Forsyth County Emergency Management Deputy Director Chris Grimes warns all residents to be cautious during any kind of storm.

"We're subject to storms any time of the year, so we really hope that people take those precautions up front," Grimes said.

Crews have blocked off the road as they fixed power lines and a pole damaged when a tree fell.
