Community supports family of severely burned construction worker

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — A local church community is reaching out to help the family of a man who was severely burned at a construction site. Workers near a crane at a Forysth County subdivision says the men were hurt when a crane moved too close to a power line.

A Lawrenceville church and the community are helping take care of Wuilver Palma's six children.

Palma and Walter Mendez, both construction workers, received life-threatening injuries Wednesday.

Palma's wife does not want to leave his side at as he recovers from burns at Grady Hospital's intensive care unit.

"We're trying to make sure that she's not alone at any point," church volunteer Judy Lee said.

There will be a special offering taken Sunday at Amazing Grace Lutheran Church. %

The Palma family is also taking donations on GoFundMe.

"We just want to keep everybody together, and make sure that they have the clothing that they need, the school supplies that they need, the grocery money that they need," Lee said.
