Community raises $350K to help family of father killed in Forsyth County wreck

A Forsyth County community has come together to help the family of a man who was killed in an accident in Suwanee.

Sriram Sundaram and his wife were turning in to an Indian grocery store Thursday on Peachtree Parkway when they were T-boned by a truck coming from the other direction.

Sundaram suffered head trauma from the impact and died from his injuries.

Sundaram, who worked in the IT industry, was here in Georgia on a work visa. Now, his wife and their 12-year-old and 7-year-old daughters are preparing to move back to India.

The community has raised more than $350,000 on this GoFund Me page to help the family with their expenses.

Channel 2's Mike Petchenik spoke with friends who will remember Sundaram as a someone who stopped at nothing to help those around him.

"I will remember him as a guy who was very genuine, who helped people when he can," said Venky Kumbakonam, who worked alongside Sundaram for over a year.

"Very sweet, honest guy.  Never seen him lose his cool," he said.

Like many of Sundaram's friends, Vijay Samanu can't believe the 42-year-old is gone.

"He was very cheerful, always supported his team members and friends," he said.

Samanu and others are now making it their mission to improve safety at this intersection. They are now asking Forsyth County to install a traffic light where Sundaram crashed and at other busy locations on Ga. 141.

"You're going to save lives because this isn't the only incident that happened," Samanu told Petchenik.

Forsyth County deputies say the crash is still under investigation. Concerned citizens have set up a meeting with leaders next month to discuss the traffic signal proposal.
