ATLANTA — A former Kennesaw State University student critically injured by a drunk driver is making progress in her recovery.
“I was standing on the sidewalk by myself. I got hit by a drunk driver,” said Bowman.
The Cherokee County woman was in Athens visiting a friend.
The accident left Bowman with severe brain damage.
In a video provided to Channel 2 Action News by the Shepherd Center in Buckhead, you can see Bowman walking on a special treadmill with her physical therapists by her side.
"All my therapists here are special and very helpful to me. I love them and I appreciate all their help," said Bowman.

In May 2014, Bowman was only able to stand for a few seconds at a time, with assistance.
Then in July 2016, she was able to walk short distances on her own.
Her speech also has dramatically improved since the accident.
Bowman told Channel 2 Action News she is determined to make a full recovery.
The driver who hit her is serving a ten-year prison sentence.
