Former county employee shot, killed by deputy in Spalding County

SPALDING COUNTY, Ga. — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was on the scene of a deadly shooting involving a Spalding County sheriff's deputy.

The sheriff said a man threatened his deputy with a gun.

According to the sheriff, a man on Collier Lane was acting suicidal and left his deputy no choice but to shoot.

“When the deputies arrived, they went to the rear of the residence, the suspect came out the door, and there was a confrontation between the deputy and the suspect,” Spalding County Sheriff Darrell Dix said.

The sheriff said the confrontation ended when the man pointed his gun at one of the deputies.
