Flood watch issued through Sunday afternoon

ATLANTA, Ga. — The rain is going to hang around through the weekend, according to Severe Weather Team 2.

Severe Weather Team 2 meteorologist Brad Nitz has spent the day tracking heavy rain moving through metro Atlanta. A flood watch is in effect for the area through 1 p.m. Sunday.

Nitz said the metro area could see 1.5 to 2.5 inches of rain over the course of the weekend.

Periods of heavy rain will continue through Sunday morning before a gradual clearing.

"The system quickly moves through and as it does, drier air comes in behind it, so we'll have some lingering clouds. But the rain will taper off through (Sunday)," said Nitz.

Temperatures will top out in the lower 50s this weekend.
