Rain from Wednesday night continues into morning

ATLANTA — It was another gloomy night Wednesday as rain moved through north Georgia, becoming heavy in parts.

"That rain will be increasing in coverage throughout the evening hours," said Severe Weather Team 2 Chief Meteorologist Glenn Burns.

The rain will not fully move out of north Georgia until early Thursday morning.

"The already saturated ground, rivers that are at full bank could increase the flood threat overnight and into tomorrow morning," said Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Brad Nitz.

By about 7 a.m. Thursday, there are just a few lingering showers throughout the region, and then drier, colder air will start to move in.

"We are looking at the possibility of a little bit of light snow or rain/snow mix in parts of the North Carolina mountains, very close to far northeast Georgia," Nitz said.

That cold air will dip into north Georgia. The anticipated low around metro Atlanta will be around 40 degrees. Farther north into the north Georgia mountains, lows will dip to the mid to high 30s on Thursday.

The highs will only make it to the low to mid-40s across the region Thursday.

"Be prepared for the rain and the cold for your morning commute," Burns said.

By Thursday afternoon, the rain and cold air are anticipated to move out and sunshine will return, leading to very nice weekend ahead.
