Flash Flood Watch continues for much of Georgia

Flash Flood Watch issued for much of Georgia.

ATLANTA — A flash flood watch remains in effect across most of north Georgia into at least Saturday morning.

Isolated showers and storms will continue throughout the metro Friday night into Saturday morning.

"By midnight, most of those storms really lose their intensity," said Severe Weather Team 2's Katie Walls. "Overnight tonight, we're calling for mainly dry conditions."

More storms will begin to form Saturday afternoon with the heating of the day and continue into the evening.

“It’s not until Sunday, late in the day that we start to deal with all that tropical moisture associated with Alberto,” Walls said. “We’ll be stuck with rainfall on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. Heavy rain at times across north Georgia.”

Georgia will see a high chance of flooding because of the heavy rainfall expected with the storm's remnants.

Gusty winds could be a good possibility. With the ongoing rain we’ve experienced over the last couple of weeks, that could mean downed trees.

As of Friday evening, the threat for tornadoes is relatively low. All of north Georgia is going to see a lot more rain.

“We’re looking at a widespread 3-5 inches of rain across metro Atlanta through Tuesday,” Walls said.

Walls said the flash flood watch will likely get extended beyond Saturday morning because of the anticipated rain.

Walls said your Memorial Day weekend won’t be a total washout, but does warn that we should expect pockets of heavy rainfall on and off throughout the holiday weekend.

The rain chances increase at the beginning of next week as the effects of Alberto near the metro.
