Firefighters battle fire, ice with NE Atlanta house fire

Freezing temperatures overnight created challenges for firefighters in northeast Atlanta.

Firefighters requested city workers to come out and put salt and sand on Flora Avenue where water froze up as they tried to extinguish a fire at a vacant home.

Lt. Michael Williams of the Atlanta Fire Department said when it's this cold, the weather poses a challenge for crews who have to deal with a combination of fire and ice.

Clayton County firefighters were also called out in the cold. A space heater may be the cause of an electrical fire at a house on Evelyn Drive in Forest Park.
