Teen carjacked at gunpoint at metro ATM; three men on the run

FAYETTE COUNTY, Ga. — Police are looking for the three men they say carjacked a teenager at a Peachtree City ATM.

The victim said it happened in just seconds as he pulled up to the Fayette County SunTrust on South Highway 74 in his white BMW Sunday night.

He whipped out his card to take out some cash when a man opened the passenger door and put a gun to his head.

“The victim was robbed of his BMW,” said investigator Sean Ishihara, with the Peachtree City Police Department.

Surveillance pictures Peachtree City police gave Channel 2 Action News show the moment the man with the gun jumped into the teen's car.

The pictures also show two other men get inside the BMW before all three took off.

“Officers were in a brief chase with it,” Ishihara said.

Police chased the stolen car into Coweta County, but the criminals got away. Officers eventually found the car in Palmetto.

The victim’s father did not want his son identified because of the circumstances surrounding the case.

However, the teen told Channel 2's Audrey Washington the men pulled up next to him in a gray pickup truck.

It’s the same truck stolen from Walter Lee.

“I felt like in some way it was my fault because it was my vehicle,” Lee said.

Lee said the carjacking crew stole his truck while he ran into a College Park Burger King for food Saturday afternoon.

“I hope they catch them before they hurt someone,” Lee said.

Police said the crew also tried to carjack another person in her driveway, just a few miles away from the bank.

"The gentleman approached me on the driver’s side, told me he was lost and needed directions to the highway,” she said.

She said she told the man, “No,” and put her car in reverse. She said the man and two others sped away in a gray pickup.

“Well it’s very scary because they had guns,” she said.

Monday afternoon, while processing Lee’s truck, police realized the crew made a major mistake. Officers found a receipt inside the pickup.

They traced it to a local Chinese restaurant and then discovered new surveillance video that shows one of the suspects grabbing takeout.

Police said the crew didn’t get away with any valuables from the BMW or from the pickup.
