FAYETTE COUNTY, Ga. — Firefighters from the City of Fayetteville Fire Department climbed a 1-mile equivalent to 160 flights of stairs to the summit of Stone Mountain on Sunday morning to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks on the United States.

Wearing a full compliment of firefighting gear, the group tested their own endurance in honor of the sacrifices made by 343 firefighters and paramedics who lost their lives on 9/11.

A group of four firefighters from the same department made the climb to the top of Stone Mountain last year, carrying with them the American flag flown at their station in Fayetteville, Georgia.

This year's climb took the firefighters one-and-a-half to two hours.
