Fayette County urges visitors to beware along Lake McIntosh

FAYETTE COUNTY, Ga. — Something may be lurking in Lake McIntosh in Peachtree City.  Warning signs went up after witnesses called 911.

The end of a pier on the lake is one of resident Chase Bolden’s favorite spots.

"I'm fishing, and what I'm going to do is be cautious,” Bolden said.

He's being cautions because he has been warned.  A few weeks back visitors believe they saw an alligator in the lake and the county Marshal’s Office posted the signs.

"We recently had an actual gator sighting in Flat Creek, which is just north of Lake McIntosh.  So you have to take it very seriously,” Fayette County Commissioner Steve Brown said.

In April, resident Bruce Traylor saw the alligator with his own eyes and snapped a picture.

"And it looked like a tire that was split in half that was laying out until it moved,” Traylor said.

"Flat Creek Floyd," as he was called, hasn’t been seen in weeks.  But that sighting was enough to raise concerns about what might be in Lake McIntosh.

"Actually been to a lake where I saw two alligators right there.  I kind of left quick! Other than that, I just chill.  I'm not going to be bothered by no alligator to be honest with you,” Bolden said.

Some wonder if it really was a gator that was spotted in the lake. There is some speculation that it was actually a big snapping turtle.
