Family: Young father shot, killed outside DeKalb apartment

LITHONIA, Ga. — Police are searching for evidence in the fatal shooting of a father at a DeKalb County apartment complex.

DeKalb County police investigators said a man was shot several times at the Arbor Crossings apartments in Lithonia early Monday morning.

The victim's sister, cousin and the mother of his newborn baby identified him as 20-year-old Nicholas Fleming.

A neighbor told Channel 2's Darryn Moore she heard five gunshots and commotion in the parking lot.

"You could hear men arguing outside and then the next thing, the gunshots fired," the neighbor said.

Police said someone shot the man outside the apartment building and he died from several gunshot wounds. Another neighbor said she peeked out her window and saw one person wearing a white T-shirt.

Detectives used flashlights to search for evidence and concentrated part of their investigation around the victim's car.

Investigators told Moore they do not have a motive in the case.
