16-year-old killed at graduation party shooting

BUTTS COUNTY, Ga. — Cederrius Hastings' family says the 16-year-old Griffin High School student was at a graduation party in Jackson when he was shot and killed Friday night.

Police say four teens were shot, but Hastings was the only one who died from his wounds.

Relatives say they don't know why anyone would want to hurt the honor roll student, but they're devastated.

"It's hard, because he was more like a brother type to me and I love him," cousin Kaniya Jones said, "It was a girl's graduation party... He was trying to run and got shot. That's all I know."

Two other teens, one male and one female, were seriously injured and are still being treated at a hospital. The fourth shooting victim was treated and released. Police say all four victims are from Griffin.

Police aren't naming any suspects, but say they have some leads.

"It's sad, because that's all he wanted to do was celebrate and go out and have a good time and he gets shot," Jones said.

Spalding County Schools told Channel 2 Action News counselors will be at Griffin High School Monday.
