Family pays tab for entire Waffle House on Father's Day

ATLANTA — A family paid it forward for dozens of people on Father's Day when they picked up the tab for every diner at a northeast Atlanta Waffle House.

The family did not want to be recognized for their generosity, but their server, Melissa Sexton, told Channel 2's Liz Artz they are regular customers at the Cheshire Bridge restaurant.

Sexton said the family has two little girls and have picked up tabs for patrons in the past, including paying everyone's tabs last Father's Day as well.

Sexton said they are loving, caring people who want to give back. Sunday's tab was $229.

Lei Shan was one of the customers who benefited from the gesture. She was eating with her husband and two children around 9:30 a.m. Sunday and wonders if the family's generosity has a back story.

Sexton said she has never asked the family why they pick up tabs, but they always slip out without a word or even a thank you from those who ate for free.

Sexton said the family's kindness has prompted her to pay it forward, even if it's in a small way.
