Ex-Clayton Co. officer killed in crash

JONESBORO, Ga. — The Clayton County Police Department is mourning the loss of a former officer.

The Police Department said Marcus Pittman was driving his personal vehicle on Walt Stephens Road in Jonesboro on Sunday when he crashed into a tree.

The Police Department said Pittman was most recently a deputy chief investigator with the Solicitor General's Office, but he served as a patrolman and a detective for Clayton County police from 1988 - 1997.

"Deputy Chief Investigator Pittman distinguished himself as a true community servant and his skills and abilities were illustrated with distinction in many ways," the Police Department said on its Facebook page.

Funeral services for Pittman will be held on May 13 at the Harvest Baptist Tabernacle on Jonesboro at 2 p.m. Graveside services will follow at the Sherwood Memorial Park and Mausoleum.

Following the services, a reception for who all who wish to attend is scheduled to be at the Atlanta Beach International Park.
