Electrical failure blamed for Winder house fire that killed toddler

WINDER, Ga. — Fire investigators and Barrow County Emergency Services have completed their investigation into a house fire that killed an 18-month-old child and seriously injured three others Wednesday.

The fire broke out at about 2:15 a.m. Wednesday at the home near Winder. A 50-year-old man, a 22-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl escaped, but were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. Barrow County fire officials told Channel 2's Ashley Swann they found the baby's body late Wednesday morning.

Fire officials said the fire started in the area of the sun room and dining room of the home, and spread quickly due to the open layout of the home. Investigators have concluded that the most probable cause of the fire was an electrical failure inside the home.
