Elderly woman injured in Marietta home invasion

MARIETTA, Ga. — Police are looking for a suspect who hurt an elderly woman during a home invasion Sunday morning.

"As he was subduing her he was basically threatening her saying if she didn't comply that he was going to inflict some physical harm towards her," said David Baldwin of the Marietta Police Department.

Investigators told Channel 2's Carl Willis that the victim only received minor injuries. Still, police said she was shaken up by the incident.

"She was actually taken to Kennestone Hospital, released with some non-life threatening injuries, but is doing well at this time; as well as can be expected," said Baldwin.

Police said the robber forced entry into the victim's home that's located in a neighborhood off of Whitlock Ave.

"I've lived here for almost seven years we've never had anything like this," said neighbor Meredith Dixon.

Neighbors who stopped by the crime scene tell Willis the victim is in her 80s.

"That makes it even more heartbreaking to hear, not only that the neighborhood would have an incident like this, but that someone would take advantage of someone like that," said Dixon.

Investigators focused their attention behind the victim's home and examined a door and back window as possible points of entry.

Detectives said the robber got away with an unknown amount of cash and jewelry.

They're asking neighbors to call them if they can recall seeing a suspicious person loitering in the neighborhood Saturday night into Sunday morning.

"Our concern is that we get this person before he is able to strike again," said Baldwin.
