ATLANTA - Police have identified a garbage truck passenger who died in a crash Saturday afternoon.
Police said Darryl Simmons, 54, was an employee with the City of Atlanta Public Works Department.
The wreck happened around 2:30 p.m. on the Cleveland Avenue exit off Interstate 75 south.
The truck driver, who also works for the city of Atlanta, is in critical condition at Grady Memorial Hospital.
Police are trying to figure out what caused the truck to flip.
“At some point on the exit ramp, for some reason, the vehicle for an unknown reason lost control, began to fishtail and then rolled into the median,” said John Chafee of the Atlanta Police Department.
