Drivers frustrated with I-20 construction

NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. - Frustrated drivers say crews have shut down lanes of Interstate 20 and it is taking them hours to go just a few miles.
Channel 2 Action News received so many calls in the newsroom about the traffic that our crews had to go check it out. Our one piece of advice: Avoid I-20 westbound through Newton and Rockdale counties.
Frustrated drivers said they were only able to slowly inch along the westbound lanes of I-20 Saturday.
The Georgia Department of Transportation began resurfacing the lanes late Friday night. Two left lanes will be closed from Almon Road to State Route 20. They said the last time this section was repaved was back in 1988.

“I’ve been in traffic two hours, two hours, and I am just horrified the way they did this. Why did they do this in the mid part of the day?” said driver Greg Marley.
Many drivers tried to find a detour, but ultimately used illegal moves to get out of the traffic.
[So you drove in the illegal lane?] “Yes I did,” Marley said.
The lanes will be closed through Monday morning.
