Dozens of dogs rescued from Tennessee cruelty case looking for homes in Atlanta

ATLANTA — Rescue groups saved nearly 200 dogs and cats from an animal cruelty situation in Tennessee. Now, some are looking for new homes in Atlanta.

Channel 2 anchor Wendy Corona met with Atlanta Humane Society, which is taking care of 33 rescued dogs.

Christina Hill talked about the rescue effort it was involved in last week and said it's a very common thing for the shelter to do.

"Obviously when you have a case of more than 200 animals you're gonna need a community to help you," Hill told Corona.

The dogs were rescued from deplorable conditions in a home in Bledsoe County, Tennessee. The owner has been arrested and faces animal cruelty charges.

The dogs are well-behaved with good manners, but they were in desperate need of medical care.

"Our priority with these dogs right now is to ensure that they receive the medical attention and love that they deserve and that they haven't had for a very long time," Hill said.

The medical team handled dental issues with each animal and had them spayed, neutered and cleaned up.

Now, all 33 dogs are ready for the next chapter of their life: adoption into a loving home.

"We take in a lot of rescues. We help out a lot of animals just like this. But we can only really do so with our community support, with our communities donations," Hill told Corona.
