VILLA RICA, Ga. — The Villa Rica Police Department said goodbye to former K-9 unit Nitro as he died on Tuesday.
Nitro had retired from the department in 2014 after he had been working for the Villa Rica Police Department since 2009.
The Police Department says Nitro was born and trained at Shadow Creek Kennels in Pennsylvania before starting his service with the department.

Nitro was partners with Cpl. Tim McKinnon.
Nitro was trained in detection of narcotics, criminal apprehension, article search, tracking/trailing and handler protection.
The Police Department says Nitro loved his job and was a dedicated K-9 unit and loyal partner.
