Detective: Man flashing $100 bills prompted deadly bar shooting in Smyrna

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A detective says a man flashing $100 bills inside a restaurant may have prompted a deadly shooting in Smyrna.

Channel 2's Ross Cavitt heard testimony in a Cobb County courtroom Tuesday.

Detectives say Isadore "Izzy" Barboza needed money and with his friend, planned to rob someone the night of the shooting at Doc's Food and Spirits off Cumberland Boulevard. He allegedly found his victim inside the Smyrna restaurant.

"Mr. Brooks flashed a large sum of money, which attracted a lot of attention inside the bar," said Smyrna police Detective Ron Waddell.

But what Barboza didn't realize, the detective said, is that the money-flashing man's girlfriend, Ebone Driskell, always carried a gun in her purse. And when the robbery went down in the parking lot, she got the drop on Barboza's friend Quondre Bentley.

"Fired one shot that hit Mr. Bentley and it was a fatal shot. He died in the driver's seat of that car," Waddell said.

Barboza, police say, then shot Driskell, tossed her out of the car and drove off with his dying friend in the front seat. The drama ended with Barboza charged with murder – not once, but twice, since his friend also died in the exchange of gunfire.

Detectives admitted having no fingerprint or DNA evidence yet, but say the cameras at Doc's Food and Spirits caught it all, inside and out.

"From the time they actually arrived at Doc's and made entry inside the bar to their actions inside the bar, to them leaving to go outside to lie in wait, and then the actual murder itself is on video," Waddell said.

The video places Barboza at the scene when the shooting happened, the detective said. He'll likely remain behind bars until his upcoming trial.
